Thank You Poppie

It's so hard to capture what to say
But here's a few words for this special day.
There's such a big void. It's such a big loss!
So relieved we'll see you again, thanks to our Lord and the cross.
You and Mom started dating when she was seventeen
And she says now it feels like her shadow's missing.
I miss so many things--your big brown eyes and thick brows, warm wink and big smile.
You had terrific taste and a wonderful style!
Those cheerful “hellos” and “goodnights,” thanking us for a nice day
You added a lot of joy that we miss in a big way.
You're an exceptional example from that Great Generation
With excellent work ethics, morals, and pride for our Nation.
You proudly served in the U.S. Air Force and made many life-long friends,
Then you thoughtfully supported The Paralyzed Veterans.
You loved and took care of animals all your life, including horses and dogs and birds
Gently holding and petting them, building a sweet bond without needing any words.
You've crafted and made beautiful things out of wood
Taking the care, time, and effort to make them look so good.
You've built countless beautiful things with your loving heart and hard-working hands;
Quilt wracks, rooms, a windmill, tree bases for birds --Whatever it was, it seems forever it stands.
You could fix anything--broken machines, computers, and old cars
So you were called "Marvelous Monte" and sure raised the bars!
You wrapped gifts, folded and ironed clothes, and made beds so neat!
It was done to perfection and was such a treat!
You and mom have been an outstanding team, sacrificing so much for us
Always working tirelessly together to make our lives better.
You've been adoptive parents to many of our friends
Helping and giving and cheering them on to no ends.
You had a rough start, and though you had reason, you didn't complain
You rose above it, persevered, and overcame.
Athletic and strong, running marathons and all
You taught us to keep going even if we fall.
A quiet man of Christian faith with a peace-loving nature, and incredibly generous heart;
You did whatever it took to give us, you're lucky family, an extra boost and jump start.
The word "tired" is not in your vocabulary is what you said
When most would have done half the work and gone to bed.
We are so thankful for you and all you've done
If there's a prize for "Best Dad Ever," you'd have won!
It's true what is said, and what we've been told,
When it comes to you, they really broke the mold.
We say, "cheers" with a glass of orange juice as we toast and think of you
It helps bring us a smile and fond memories when we're feeling so blue.
We miss you and, as Mom says, “Wish there was a hotline to heaven for us to hear your voice.”
That's what we would vote for if we had that choice.
We're glad you're resting in peace now, breathing easy with no pain.
It is definitely our loss here on Earth and Heaven's gain!
We're very thankful for the memories that we will always treasure;
You have Built a Legacy and we're Blessed Beyond Measure!
We know it's up to God and only He knows when;
It's only "Bye for now" until we meet again.
With Much Love,
Your daughter, Diane Marie Massett
